Meet Philly!!

Our longest-term resident, Philly, has been waiting for his forever home for 127 days. That’s a long time to spend in a kennel! One of our volunteer dog trainers, Paul, decided to switch things up for Philly and took him on a field trip to Veterans Park in Smithsburg!

Paul shared that Philly jumped right into his car, laid down, and relaxed on the 25-minute drive. At the park, Philly was “very well-behaved” and even though he was busy running and sniffing, Philly “didn’t pull at the leash too much.” Paul shared that Philly “ran from place to place, bush to bush, and tree to tree” as he explored the new surroundings and smells. Philly watched people and dogs from a distance and was on his best behavior. He even practiced some of the skills he’s learning in training, such as sitting in various places.

Philly spent nearly 2 whole hours enjoying Veterans Park, and Paul shared that Philly “had the biggest smile on his face the entire trip. …It was a lot of fun for me and for Philly too.”

Check out the pictures of Philly on his field trip, and make a trip of your own to come meet him in person! Philly is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He’s ready to go home today! Philly’s adoption fee has been sponsored by a friend of the shelter.

🐕: Philly may be dog-selective, and he might do best as the only dog in the home.  He will have to meet any dogs in the home prior to adoption.

👫: Philly has successfully lived with children ages 7 to 9 years old. Bring the whole fam in for a meet and greet!

🐈: Philly has never lived with cats before.
